High Surf Advisory
Effective: Saturday, January 15, 2022 - 4:03am to Sunday, January 16, 2022 - 6:00pm
.A building west-northwest swell will produce advisory level surf along exposed north and west facing shores until Sunday evening.
...HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST SUNDAY...
* WHAT...Surf heights along north facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai are expected to range from 12 to 16 feet this morning, building to 18 to 24 feet by this afternoon. North facing shores of Maui will also see increasing trends into the advisory range. Surf heights along west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai are expected to range from 8 to 12 feet this morning, building to 12 to 16 feet by this afternoon.
* WHERE...North and west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, and Molokai, and for north facing shores of Maui.
* WHEN...Until 6 PM HST Sunday.
* IMPACTS...Moderate. Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.
A High Surf Advisory is issued when waves reach threshold criteria for a particular island and shoreline.
