Flash Flood Warning
Effective: Monday, December 6, 2021 - 2:40am to 6:15am
Alert:
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the
* Flash Flood Warning for... The island of Maui in Maui County
* Until 615 AM HST.
* At 240 AM HST, radar indicated a renewed area of very heavy showers moving over Maui from the south, with even more heavy showers developing further upstream. Localized rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour will exacerbate ongoing flooding from earlier rainfall. Portions of leeward Maui have received over 6 inches of rain over the past 6 hours, and runoff remains high. HAZARD...Heavy rain producing life threatening flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Significant and life threatening flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low lying areas. Multiple public road closures expected, as well as landslides in steep terrain.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... the entire island of Maui. This warning may need to be extended beyond 615 AM HST if flooding persists. FLASH FLOOD...RADAR INDICATED FLASH FLOOD DAMAGE THREAT...CONSIDERABLE

Warning Instruction:
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even
if they are currently dry.
Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on
foot. Turn around, don`t drown.
Affected Monitored Beaches:
Unmonitored lands and waters in the impact area described in the alert will also be impacted.
If conditions change before expiration or the event needs to be extended, an update or cancellation will be issued from Hawaii Beach Safety Website.
