Monk Seal Advisory

Effective: Monday, April 26, 2021 - 5:00pm to Monday, June 14, 2021 - 5:00pm

A Monk seal has given birth to a pup in Waikiki at Kaimana Beach. After birth monk seals can be very aggressive towards humans on land and in the ocean. Use extreme caution while near any monk seal on land or in the ocean.

Notes (optional):

Monk seals may appear dead, but they are not. They often lie on the beaches to sun themselves. Never approach a monk seal on the beach.

Affected Monitored Beaches:

Unmonitored lands and waters in the impact area described in the alert will also be impacted.

If conditions change before expiration or the event needs to be extended, an update or cancellation will be issued from Hawaii Beach Safety Website.
