...HIGH SURF WARNING FOR NORTH AND WEST FACING SHORES OF NIIHAU KAUAI OAHU MOLOKAI AND NORTH FACING SHORES OF MAUI...

...HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR NORTH AND WEST FACING SHORES OF THE BIG ISLAND STARTING NOON TODAY...

.A giant northwest swell will build today, peaking on Kauai during the late morning, on Oahu shortly after midday, and mid- to late- afternoon on Maui. Some of the swell`s energy is expected to reach portions of the Big Island later in the day, peaking tonight. A gradual decrease in wave heights is expected on Sunday, but another large swell is expected to arrive by Monday.

...HIGH SURF ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 6 PM HST SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Surf of 12 to 16 feet.

* WHERE...North facing shores of the Big Island.

* WHEN...From noon today to 6 PM HST Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Moderate. Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.

A High Surf Advisory is issued when waves reach threshold criteria for a particular island and shoreline.

Warning Instruction:
Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution. Know your limits and seek ocean recreation areas best suited for your abilities.

Unmonitored lands and waters in the impact area described in the alert will also be impacted.

If conditions change before expiration or the event needs to be extended, an update or cancellation will be issued from Hawaii Beach Safety Website.
