Flood Advisory

Effective: Wednesday, December 19, 2018 - 2:02am to 4:45am

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flood advisory for... The island of Maui in Maui County

* Until 445 AM HST.

* At 152 AM HST, radar indicated moderate to heavy showers from Hana to Haiku and from Waihee to Honolua. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. The Honokohau and and Honopou streams have responded and continue to rise. An additional 1 to 2 inches will remain possible in the next few hours, which may lead to flooding in and around low lying areas.

* Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to... Kahului, Kapalua, Honokohau, Kahakuloa, Puunene, Haliimaile, Pauwela, Paia, Makawao, Wailuku, Waiehu and Haiku-Pauwela. This advisory may need to be extended beyond 445 AM HST if heavy rain persists.
Notes (optional):

A Flood Advisory, previously called an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory, means nuisance flooding is occurring or imminent.

Warning Instruction:
Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don`t drown.

Unmonitored lands and waters in the impact area described in the alert will also be impacted.

If conditions change before expiration or the event needs to be extended, an update or cancellation will be issued from Hawaii Beach Safety Website.
