High Wind Warning
Effective: Monday, February 11, 2019 - 3:20am to Tuesday, February 12, 2019 - 6:00pm
Alert:
...HIGH WIND WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST TUESDAY...
* WINDS...West 90 to 120 mph with gusts up to 150 mph, decreasing to 50 to 70 with gusts to 85 mph by late this afternoon for the Big Island summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
* TIMING...Through 6 PM Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...Winds this strong can make driving and hiking extremely dangerous. Travel to the summits should be delayed until the high winds subside.
* WINDS...West 90 to 120 mph with gusts up to 150 mph, decreasing to 50 to 70 with gusts to 85 mph by late this afternoon for the Big Island summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.

Description:
A High Wind Warning is issued when sustained winds exceeding 40 mph and/or frequent gusts over 60 mph are occurring or imminent.
Instruction:
A High Wind Warning for the summits means that winds are expected
to be at least 56 mph with gusts over 66 mph. Travel to the
summit areas should be delayed until winds subside.
Affected Monitored Beaches:
Unmonitored lands and waters in the impact area described in the alert will also be impacted.
If conditions change before expiration or the event needs to be extended, an update or cancellation will be issued from Hawaii Beach Safety Website.
